Posters from Flex Studio

I thought I'd show some posters I've done in Flex Design Studio this past semester.

Baltimore ABC
I got the letters E and I - Edgar Allen Poe and the Inner Harbor. That's a dragon paddle boat represented for Inner Harbor, not a Loch ness monster.

Poster for a (fake) graduation show

It really complements a whole invitation package (which I have not yet gotten around to photographing. But it all has the floral type pattern, with my hand drawn scribbles of stuff that represents me. I designed it to have a spot varnish on the floral pattern, so that it'll have that glossy effect on just the flower things.

Oh man, look at the time...

Wow. It's been nearly a full half-year since I last posted. Sorry to anyone who actually checks this post. My bad? In fact, I don't know why I put up this blog in the first place...most of my work is very graphic designy and uninteresting, unlike cool illustration stuff. I also suck at illustration I realize...mostly because I haven't really seriously drawn anything since freshman year, and I have no style. Or maybe I do, but it's not a very good style. I suppose that this blog will slowly become less of a "sketchvon" and more of a "designvon" - yes, von is the nickname I give myself, only I can use it to address myself. Anyhow, since winter break is upon me soon (in about a week), and I plan on updating my portfolio site with recent works, so I suppose I'll post some stuff here...soon, very soon!

Smokey, inky

Black watercolor with Photoshopped colors

I decided to try my hand at something illustrative and stylized while playing around with watercolor. Didn't turn out too bad for just a doodle, I'm quite proud of it. Though, I wouldn't turn it in if it was an assignment or something. In fact, you might point out that it's imitating alot of other illustator's styles (can't think of who specifically off the top of my head)...but whatever. It's okay.

I'm just happy I can pull off this type of style.

something random

Sorry I haven't posted in over a month. Here's a little crazy vector doodle I whipped up last night out of boredom.

Watercolors

(I meant to make this post last week but the uploader was being slow...and now it works fine.)

Anyhow, since it is summer, I have been bored. So I picked up watercolors lately, and my "practice run" in which I attempted a self portrait turned out really good. So it is now posted on the internet. (You may have seen it already as my facebook profile pic.) I really like it. I want to do more portraits now.

No Freakin Way

As I was catching up on one of my favorite blogs, Design Sponge, I came across this post

And I was like....NO FREAKIN WAY!!!
Because I did almost the same design for the screenprinting project for Intro to Graphic Design class last year.

I still carry that bag around all the time...it just looks grungier and paint stained now. And I still have that yellow tank top, that I sometimes wear. But still. The same exact scattered yellow sprouts. WHOA.

What also threw me off too was that one of the designers from missprint (the company that was blogged about) has the same first name as me - Yvonne. Which also caught my eye as I skimmed through the blog, because as everyone probably experiences as well, if you see your name in a block of text it just jumps out at you.

What a weird weird world.

I'm not accusing them of ripping me off or anything. I know there's no way they copied my design...considering that first off, don't know who came first (though I did make this over a year ago), second off this design company is based in London...and also its not the exact same design, there ARE differences obviously. But yeah.

It's just such a mindblowing coincidence.

Sneak Peak

Been slaving away at my animation final lately. But here are some shots.

Guess what happens to the turtle!

Sketchbook page of the day

Occasionally I doodle some nice things in my sketchbook...or at least, I feel like they're nice. haha.
I call this one "Miss Beatrice, with a bow in her hair and feathers everywhere".

Bleach pen shirts

Yesterday I decided to try out the bleach pen idea that I've always heard about. It was awesome.

This is a dark brown cami (for some reason it just wouldn't photograph well), which turned pink/purple when bleached.

And this is a blue-gray shirt (one of the cheap 5 dollar ones you can get at Forever 21) - for some reason this one photographed really well. I decided to go all out and draw a peacock on this one.

All in all, bleach pen shirts are fun, and a great way to avoid working on ugly finals.

Pattern Play

So instead of doing my homework, I started playing around in photoshop making repeat patterns. It's time I get a new desktop background anyway. I also made a banner for this blog (at long last). Too bad it's kinda displaying in crappy quality.

some 3d modeling

Yeah...overall conclusion, 3d modeling is quite fun. It's like sculpture on computer...or something. Maybe not, I'm not really into sculpture anyway.

And here I'm just playing around with what I can do with the view off my balcony. Either turn it into a giant cookie sheet, or ATTACK OF THE BLOCK BUNNIES.

Red Baby Birdie

Just an ultra-simple little animation I did in 3ds max for homework this week. For this being the second week of learning this stuff, I'm quite proud of myself.

It's like a red baby chocobo!

Some Friends

I was bored one night and started sketching off pictures on facebook. Good way to keep up my drawing skills? Maybe.

3ds max stuff

I'm in Intro to 3d Computer Animation, and here are some of the stuff I've done so far. It's very amateur...but I know I'll get better.

I was experimenting with making random objects. Haha.

It's a bear! Awwww.

And here's a village/palace type environment I built.

Random sketchbook pages

So I thought I'd share some random pages from my sketchbook. I'm kinda into doing lettering for some reason.

Nostalgia

Since today was my last day home for winter break, I thought I might reflect a bit on my elementary/middle/high school art accomplishments. They are all over my room and the hallways of my house.

These are shots of the hallway leading up to my room. The one with blue ribbon (top right corner, kinda cut off) was my rodeo piece in 7th grade. Haha.

And here are shots of my bedroom. All high school AP art work.

This is the game room area...with more random artworks on the walls.

This is a piece I did when I was around 9 for some art contest and won the top prize - which was 200 dollars. The sucky part is, its in savings bonds that won't mature until 10 years later. So I guess this year, I can break out that check from the frame and finally cash it in. Haha.
It's a really cute piece. The topic was My Family or something like that.

Anyhow, it's kinda sad that I don't do much drawing/painting anymore, being a graphic design major.

*PS- sorry if you can't click to view the pictures bigger...I'm still new to using blogger and the picture uploader was frustrating me sooo much earlier tonight.*

Those who see me on facebook may already be familiar with these drawings/pictures that I like to use.

Welcoming myself to Blogger

This new sketch blog will surely motivate me to draw more. After all, it is my new years resolution for 2008.

I shall also post something visually appealing soon. Stay tuned!
